Gemma Correll has Four Eyes and is VERY funny.
Perhaps you already know Gemma's work and her infamous Pugs? But maybe you aren't familiar with her brilliant puns and witty single panel comics. In the spirit of Schultz's Peanuts comics, she spins her own musings on life through a band of characters that include cats, dogs, dinosaurs, the moon, and of course Gemma herself.
Having worked with Gemma since the initial Toasted range launch in 2010, it was decided that it was only right she had her own collection, which we are very excited to publish this Autumn.
A total of 18 designs make up 'Four Eyes', each one playing host to her sharp wit and observational prowess. And now we all know why it rains.
For details on the full range please visit the trade section (you'll need a password from the studio.)
Available September 2013.

Roll up! Roll up! On the 30th May we are hosting a charity postcard lotto in aid of the Big Draw!
We have asked the artists we've worked with on our Toasted range, as well as some surprise guests, to draw/print/stamp/scribble/paint on an A6 postcard and send it back to us. On the night, at our newly launched shop and screen print studio in central Bristol, we will be hosting a blind lottery where people can donate and take home a postcard-sized piece of art! Alongside Toasted artists such as Gemma Correll, Jean Jullien and Fred Benaglia, we also have artwork from Vic Reeves, Axel Scheffler (of Gruffalo frame), and the team at Aardman animation.
The Big Draw is an amazing charity that works with schools, museums, heritage sites and in the wider community to promote the act of drawing as a tool for thought, creativity, social and cultural engagement. It is a fitting charity for us as we have championed many up and coming designers, illustrators and artists over the past 3 years with our 'Toasted' range of cards and wrap, providing a commercial platform for contemporary image makers. The campaign's work will finish when the words 'I can't draw' are dropped from our vocabulary!
Here are a selection of some of the amazing works we have received already, which have totally bowled us over with their generosity and skill- so a HUGE thank you to all the artists involved!
We are proud to present the photography of Andy Prokh.
Andy is one of the photographers who's images have been selected for our 1000 Words photography range. Based in Russia, Andy's work can be found here where you can appreciate his varied and innovative portfolio. It is a window into contemporary Russian culture with nuances we may not fully appreciate but can only help but admire the artistry and creativity involved.
We first came across his work via the blogosphere, it was a revelation to us on finding the creative talent behind the amazing images of cats playing cards and posing for the camera in apparent complete understanding of the roles they play the studio.

As you may already know, Micah is an astonishingly, 'jaw droppingly' talented illustrator and someone who creates work that others aspire to. His interest in nature and everything it entails (extending to storm chasing, crop circles and prehistoric lands) is central to Micah’s work and it is really exciting to discover all of the adventures and happenings in the details in his intricate compositions.

It's our 10th Anniversary this month...which means that our 'Scrawl' range is 10 years old too! To celebrate we have given Scrawl a bit of a makeover, to bring it bang up to date for 2013.
The very first Urban Graphic release, Scrawl was launched as a determinedly contemporary quote range. Informed by the Bristol street-art scene and the works of graphic ground-breakers such as David Carson, Tony Cresswell created a card range that was punchy, vibrant, and new.
So, with the new launch, TC is focussing on the qualities that made Scrawl stand out in the first place, and giving them a twist for 2013. The bold letterpress and layered textures have given Scrawl a whole new lease of life...and we are really proud of them!
We are launching the new Scrawl with 25 everyday designs and 12 Occasions, with some classic Scrawl quotes alongside some brand-new ones.
Printed on matt recycled board complete with a black branded envelope. Now bigger too (150x150mm)

We approached individual artists from around the world who have an eye for cute and clever ideas with characters that would appeal to children with a modern and fresh approach to the designs.
The range features super sweet monsters and animals with bright and colourful images which jump off the cards. Some of the designs are also available as really cool kids t-shirts from our webshop, currently also on sale so grab a bargain while you can! These t-shirts designs are also an exclusive to the UK. Our intention is to bring a unique and original kids card range to the high street, something beyond the usual and we hope you agree!

Allegedly Paul Bower like crisps sandwiches, roller skates and making a mess in his studio. His illustrations use traditional print making techniques such as screen and letterpress, hand drawn typography and collage with a unique sense of humour that brings a wonderful quality to his work.
Paul is based in south London and is one of illustration agency Pocko People's artists. There is great interview with Paul here on the ohgoodnessgreatness blog where you can also check out Paul's amazing beard!
If you would like to see more of Paul's fantastic work then check out his website here.
'Jesus Christ/Oh My God' is available as a card as part of our Toasted collection.
Hanako Clulow is a freelance illustrator who draws upon a wide range of interests such as nature, animals, psychology and her native Japanese culture.
Hannah's illustrative work features some lovable animal characters in a bold and animated style. They include a really beautifully drawn bear with loads of character - 'Poko', an image of whom was recently published by Urbangraphic illustration in the Toasted artists card range. (See 'Poko' card image top.)
You can take a look at more of Hannah's work on her website ilikesleeping.
We have some additions to our Showreel card range for next spring - Mothers and Fathers Day 2013.
Showreel deliberately mixes occasion based sentiment with the hand cut style of 1950's and 60's movie posters. Some are puns on movies, others simply made up film titles.
At the beginning of this month we attended the wonderful annual Henries award ceremony (which is the equivelent to the oscars for the greetings card industry!) Lots of ball dresses, wedding reception-esque dancing and fun with the help of a few glasses of prosecco. We were celebrating another win for our photography range 1000 words! We have made some new additions to the range this Autumn and will be making further additions in the new year.
New for January 2012 we are delighted to present our own brand of heavy duty tea-towels, all screenprinted here in the UK. The in-house designs have come from our award winning 'Lettered' card range and feature quirky and appropriate quotations and musings in a vintage typographic style.
The tea towels are screenprinted onto a 100% heavy half panama cotton (think butcher's apron) and measure 48 X 68 cm.
Jack Teagle has been a bit of a household name for our range Toasted as Heroes and Villains has proven very popular! We are pleased to announce that the Kernow based painter and comic and action figure enthusiast has recently been in touch with his feminine side and painted us up a Heroines and Villains version! Both are available as card and wrapping paper as part of our Toasted collection.
Jack's portfolio boasts of narratives of heroes, villains and creatures of his imagination spoken in bright acrylic palettes. Check out Jacks sketchbook on his website it really gives you an insight into his background and where his inspirations come from.
New additions for 2012 for our card range Toasted. We had a lot of fun sourcing new work and have added eighteen new designs that we are excited to share with you. Launched in January 2011, Toasted is a celebration of up and coming contemporary artists and designers. The range showcases a wide spectrum of talented creatives many of whom have had prestigious representation in both gallery and commercial arenas. Current stockists of the Toasted range include the Tate, Design Museum, V&A, Magma, Maythers, Scribbler, and the London Graphics Centre.
Aimée Wilder is a designer and illustrator from New York, she creates beautiful pattern based work for such prestigious clients as Vans and Skiphop.
'Gameland' is Aimée Wilder's latest design for the Toasted wrap range. It's a graphic representation of retro gaming culture, imagined versions of iconic portable computer gadgetry, bringing a contemporary design sensibility and drawing on a nostalgic period in computer entertainment history, we think it makes an amazing wrapping paper.
Øivind Hovland is a fellow Bristol resident, who works primarily on editorial illustration. Hovland’s artwork makes use of different print textures and limited colour palettes to give his work a very inviting look when seen on the printed page.
Øivind’s work also has a really strong sense of narrative- ‘Even if you only have one small image at your disposal, a story can still be told. And that, in a nutshell is my aim, to tell a story using whatever means I have’.
Whatever editorial challenge he is faced with, Øivind always comes up with some really unique artwork. We are pleased to publish this image of a dapper young man enjoying a drink atop a cityscape, in our upcoming Toasted 2013 range in Janurary.
See more of Øivind’s work on his site
or follow his work on his blog
We are really excited to announce that we are including some wonderful typographic pieces in Toasted this January, created by the extraordinary talents of Richard Perez, aka Skinny Ships. Perez is a designer and illustrator working out of San Francisco; his work is bright and graphic with quirky sentiments and he has some awesome type projects in his portfolio including this personal project where he re-designed his top ten favourite albums of 2011.
Tin Ojeda is a photographer, surfer and founder of DIY t-shirt company, Drug Money Art. Ojeda is originally from Buenos Aires, Argentina, but now lives between NYC and Montauk, where he started screen printing and spray painting his own shirts, now stocked in select stores across the globe.
We came across this image of a lady wearing a ‘Death to Hipsters’ shirt and assumed that the OAP uprising had begun to teach us kids a lesson. But it turned out, she was in fact Ojeda’s friend's grandma- ‘We made the tee just for the shoot. She is very funny and always talking about "those hipsters."’
The DIY aesthetic of Drug Money Art’s t-shirts combined with Ojeda’s great b/w 35mm photography of his surf friends and relatives modeling the clothing create a some really strong imagery.
Ojeda believes the shirts are more than just an item to wear, but individual pieces of art. We are pleased to include this image in our new 1000 Words range in early 2013.
More info on Tin Ojeda and Drug Money Art can be found here:

We thought it would be good for people to see our trade show stands from the last few years. We have had great success at Top Drawer recently and as we have a brand spanking new blog site we thought it would be a good idea to show people what we have done there in recent years.
We won 'Best Dressed Stand' at Spring / Summer Top Drawer in 2011 . It was great to see all the combined efforts of the UG team recognised (but especially TC, Nick and John who designed and built the stand!)
We have actually managed to win this once before back in 2008 with an all white and shiny stand.
If you are a dedicated follower of fashion combined with an appreciation of illustration you will find a complementary mixture of the two in Fifi Lapin's card range.
Sensitive brush strokes and a soft colour palette make up some exquisite fashion illustrations of the latest catwalk masterpieces and the glamorous lifestyle of Fifi and friends.
Stockists of the Fifi Lapin card range include; Selfridges, Harrods, V&A and Paperchase.
Sandi Falconer/Deadweight is an illustrator/designer/maker of things living in Toronto, Canada. She uses bold symbols and primitive patterns in her work.
We published Sandi’s great ‘Over the Moon’ image as a card in our Toasted range this year.
She has also turned her screenprinting skills to a joint venture with her friend, Danielle Wright on a range of leather goods called Falconwright. They produce bags and purses in a unique combination of colourful leather and primitive patterns.
Look out for ‘Over the Moon’ as a part of Toasted right now!
For more info on Sandi, check out her blog
and for info on Falconwright, see here
We saw this image of a canine builder and knew immediately the world would like to see it too. The dog in question is Zimmy Dog, a female labrador from Bright, Victoria, Australia. Zimmy not only likes to lend a paw on building sites, but is also an avid protestor for animal rights.
Zimmy Dog is currently campaigning for Oscar’s Law, which is the abolition of factory farmed domestic dogs and pets in Australia. Unbelievably there are 70 puppy factories in Victoria alone, where dogs are factory bred in cramped conditions without adequate care and attention, before being sold online and to pet shops throughout Australia. Zimmy is on a mission to raise awareness and abolish this cruel situation.
We think the Zimmy Dog is bonza! We are proud to feature her in our new 1000 Words range in January 2013 and wish her luck with her campaigning.
Chris Haughton is an Irish designer and illustrator. He wrote and illustrated the incredibly popular ‘A Bit Lost’, and his latest book, ‘Oh No George’ came out in March. Chris also works a lot with fair trade organisations and is the brains behind Node, a rug project working in Nepal.
The Node project is a great example of contemporary design and fair trade producers working together to create a great product where everyone benefits. In Chris’ own words,
‘We aim to connect a worldwide network of designers and artists with traditional Nepalese carpet makers to create beautiful handmade rugs.
Our rug makers, Kumbeshwar are a founder member of Fair Trade Nepal. Employees are taught literacy and skills. In addition to fair wages their work supports a school of 260 children and an orphanage of nineteen.
We produce our carpets entirely by hand using age old and natural Tibetan carpet making techniques. All our carpets are made from bales of pure Tibetan wool. It is hand spun into thread, hand dyed with natural and non-polluting dyes, and then hand-knotted on our looms into carpet. We worked with Satyendra and the design team and found a way to convert our digital designs into carpets on the loom using graphs.’
The fair trade process has also found it’s way into making some merchandise for Chris’ new children’s book, which is a brilliant and unconventional approach.
We are pleased to have published Chris’ hilarious image of the troubled pink dog in the Toasted artists card range.
Check out the Node project here
Chris also keeps an amazing blog here
Brazilian born illustrator Joao Lauro Fonte now resides in London where he works as a freelance illustrator. 'Brave Little Kang' is one of our latest additions to Toasted, also available as a t-shirt via Threadless alongside some of his other spectacular works. Animals and creatures are common features in Joao's portfolio, in printed textures and earthy tones a plenty. Beautiful.
Jing Wei is a Chinese-born illustrator and printmaker. She currently resides in Brooklyn, NY. We came across her work and really liked the pastel tones and sensitive textures created by her use of printmaking. We are really pleased to include her beautiful piece 'Trees' as part of the new additions to our 'Toasted' range this year.
Jing has a lovely blog regularly updated with her ongoing work and some wonderful paper collages and 3d work too.
New for 2011 our card range 'Lettered'. Taking inspiration from 20th Century wartime typographic posters and letterpress, 'Lettered' adds a classic design twist to the contemporary quotations genre.
With over ninety designs to choose from, printed on matt recycled board and packed with a heavyweight envelope.
